About Us

What is the Icho Festival?

The Icho Festival is an annual university festival held at the University of Osaka from late April to early May. It is organized for a variety of purpose, such as to celebrate the university’s founding, to welcome new students, promote interaction with students and faculty and staff, and to strengthen connections with the local community. Its origins back to before the 1950s, when various events such as athletic competitions and garden parties were held as part of the university’s anniversary celebrations and new student welcoming activities. The name “Icho Festival” has been in use since 1963.

During the festival, more than 100 events of students take place, along with activities such as laboratory open houses hosted by different faculties. Visitors can experience the energy of the University of Osaka students and enjoy a rare opportunity to explore the university’s facilities and academic achievements firsthand.
